Book Summary: "Every Job is a Sales Job" by Dr. Cindy McGovern
How to use the art of selling to win at work
I first met Dr. Cindy McGovern in 2005. She was incredibly dynamic and did not have a sales background. Over the past 18 years I’ve known her she’s consistently been an incredible sales person - with out being a sales person.
It’s no surprise that she wrote a book.
It’s good and it may shift your perception about sales.
Here’s my summary
Every Job is a Sales Job by Dr. Cindy McGovern highlights the importance of sales skills in any job, regardless of the job title. The book emphasizes that everyone is a salesperson and that we are all selling something, whether it's a product, a service, or even ourselves.
Part One: Paints a picture that you are, in fact, already selling all the time and will help you shift the way you think about sales. It also illustrates through some great stories about how that can translate into both career and job success. This can be an “A-ha” moment for those that did not grow up in sales.
Part Two: Dr. Cindy presents a five-step sales process that can be applied to various aspects of life, such as company culture, hiring, and politics.
Plan - know what you want and make a plan to get it - spend time on figuring out exactly what you want.
Look for Opportunities - pay attention there are opportunities in your daily activities all the time!
Establish Trust - listen, observe, opportunities will come by honestly, seek a win-win
Ask for What You Want - it’s OK to ask, for help, for business.
